Zaage, American (b. 1927)

Born in Jersey City, New Jersey, Zaage’s art studies began at
Dickinson High School and continued in the WPA workshops of the 1940s.
He studied with John Ross at the New School for Social Research and
has taught printmaking for more than 30 years at both the Art Laboratory
workshops of Staten Island and at the New School for Social Research.
In addition to many group and solo exhibitions, Zaage was the recipient
of the 1994 William Meyerowitz Memorial award for Graphics and the 1988
Leo Meissner Prize from the National Academy of Design.
Zaage’s work has been compiled in an art book, Bon a Tirer:
The Prints of Herman Zaage, available through the Noble Maritime
