Guidelines
for Submission.
1. Submissions should be unpublished letters to
the editor and op-eds sent to a newspaper or magazine that you believe
will enhance the quality of public awareness regarding current or
past events. Letters need not be recently written, but should remain
pertinent to the present or of historical interest. While we primarily
publish letters and op-eds, you may also submit unpublished visual
art commentaries if you believe they fit the guidelines above.
2. Letters should be no longer than 650-1,000 words
in length, though we occasionally publish longer pieces.
3. Submissions should be accompanied by the name(s)
of the publication(s) to which they were sent, and when they were
submitted.
4. Indicate the title and date of the article/editorial/feature/image/caption,
etc. that you are responding to.
5. If the letter or op-ed is a general commentary,
and is not responding to a particular item in the paper, indicate
this. Also indicate the date when it was sent.
6. Please include your contact information including
phone number, so that our editorial group may reach you to discuss
any questions we may have.
7. All submissions should be sent as emails (not
attachments) to this email address: editors@rejectedletterstotheeditor.com
Comments and/or questions regarding RLTE may be sent
to the same address.
8. If your letters are only available as hard copies,
please write a clear description of your letter and send it to the
email address above. If the letter is of interest, we will provide
you with postal or fax submission guidelines.
9. In a new department called “Original Works”
we will include a small number of original letters, op-eds, or short
essays (no more than 1,500 words) that have not been rejected but
which share the spirit of this publication. You may want to contact
us to discuss your idea before sending it in. For this purpose write
to:
editors@rejectedletterstotheeditor.com
Note: Your submission of your letter to RLTE—via
email or “snail mail”—will constitute permission
to publish your letter on the RLTE web site. If published by RLTE,
your letter will appear on the RLTE site for a period of about a
month. It will then be archived for ongoing availability to RLTE
readers through the RLTE archive. Prior to publication you may be
contacted by RLTE to provide more background information regarding
the topic of your submission or regarding the article your letter
references. We may also request a modification of your original
letter or op-ed for clarity. All efforts will be made to reproduce
your words accurately. Inaccuracies will be corrected if we receive
notification from you.
